WMF Applications for the 2014 Empowerment Through Education Scholarship

The Wells Mountain Foundation is happy to announce the launch of the 2014 Empowerment Through Education Scholarship application. Applicants are directed to apply online and submit their completed application on our website (not via email). For further information and to access the 2014 application online, please review the Scholarships webpage. Applicants will create a secure username and password to log-in to our online scholarship management system. All applicants will have access to work on their application from December 2013-April 1, 2014. We are excited for our transition to using an online scholarship management system.

Wells Mountain Scholarship Program
Welome to the 2014 WMF Empowerment Through Education Scholarship application.
Applicants should meet the following criteria
when applying for this scholarship: (1) successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades, (2) plans to study within their developing country or another country in the developing world, (3) plans to live and work in their country after they graduate, (4) has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and is willing to volunteer while receiving the WMF scholarship, (5) may have some funds avaliable for their education, but will not be able to attend school without a scholarship.
Please remember to save your application form every few minutes by pressing "Save Draft". Only submit your application when all required fields have been completed. You will have until April 1, 2014 to complete your application.
Please be sure to logout when you have completed a session.  Logging in to two different computers or two browsers on one computer at one time could result in the loss of information from your application.

SECTION 3: YOUR FINANCIAL RESOURCES
We understand that all applicants come from different financial backgrounds. We ask that you complete the following section with honesty. The selected students to recieve the Empowerment Through Education Scholarship are chosen based on many aspects, not financial need alone. 

Our maximum scholarship is $3000 USD, but we do not usually award that high an amount. If we provide less than the total amount you have asked for in this scholarship application, is there any way you can make up the difference? *

SECTION 7: ESSAY QUESTION
This is your opportunity to share your ideas and feelings regarding issues impacting you and your community. All essays must be completed in English and contain your own words. We will check your essay with online plagiarism software, no plagiarism will be allowed.

SECTION 8: SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR YOUR APPLICATION
The following documents are required for your application to be complete: 
  • A clear personal photo *
  • Two letters of recommendation*- These letters need to be from people who know you, but are not family members, such as employers, teachers, clergy, volunteer group leaders, etc., who can tell us about your character and abilities. We strongly suggest the reccomendation letters be on official stationery from the organization, school or buisness of the person writing your reccomendation.
  • A personal statement* of at least 500 words but no more than 1000, telling us about your background, your family, your life experiences, why you chose to study the particular field you are studying, and why you believe you should be favorably considered for this scholarship.  This statement is a very important part of our decision making process! Please do not fabricate your life experiences. We can tell.
  • Official transcript of grades from secondary school and if you have already completed one or more years at the tertiary level, please include an official grade report for these studies*. Do not include grades from primary or junior high school.
  • A key to interpret your secondary/tertiary grades*. For example, in some countries "D" means below average and in others it stands for distinction.
  • Results from your national exam*.
  • An official key to interpret your national exam grades*.  For example, in some countries “D” means below average and in others it stands for Distinction.

  • If you have received your Acceptance Letter, please upload it. If you have not recieved your Acceptance Letter or you are currently enrolled in your tertiary eudcation then DO NOT upload and do not send us a copy unless we specifically request it in July 2014

SECTION 9: COMMITMENT TO VOLUNTEER SERVICE
The Wells Mountain Foundation is committed to the importance of volunteer service.  We believe volunteer service provides benefits not only to the cause where the time is expended, but also to the volunteer.  Applicants for a scholarship should be advised that an award of a scholarship will come with a requirement for some period of volunteer activity by the scholarship recipient at a non-profit organization, a school, a medical office, etc. within their country of study or home country.
