BUT WHERE SHALL WISDOM BE
FOUND? (Job
28 : 12)
I breeze into this discussion on this
rhetorical note. But where shall wisdom be found? Man in psychology,
philosophy, sociology, education, politics is in dire search for wisdom and
various people have defined it in various ways. Some say they have attained it
while some are still striving to attain it.
The Microsoft Encarta dictionary 2009
defines it in various ways; they call it good sense; wise decision; accumulated
learning; opinion widely held; ancient teachings or sayings. Which is correct?
A serious observation is drawn by the
inspired writer ‘Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the
land of the living’ (vs 13). Wow! But I thought there are people who have been termed
wise by their diverse studies, how come is the Lord saying that it is not in
the land of the living. Further verses reveal that “It cannot be gotten for
gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. The gold and the
crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine
gold… for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
If then wisdom is as priceless, indispensable and
valuable as this, such a person will be a fool to lack it. Dear reader,
where then shall wisdom be found? Thanks to God the answer came.
where then shall wisdom be found? Thanks to God the answer came.
And unto man he said, behold, the fear of
the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding(vs 28). How
indispensable then is the fear of the Lord? if this is the wisdom we have been
searching, such a man would be a fool to lack it.
Now you may say, but I fear God, I even
worship Him on Sundays and week days. What then do you mean? The Bible says
‘Thou believeth that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe
and tremble(James 2:19). Devils also fear the supreme deity of God but that
does not make them wise. Something must be added to your fear to make it
complete, else it is not different from that of devils.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride
and arrogance, and the evil way, and the forward mouth do I hate(Proverbs
8:13). A man who says I fear God but has not yet departed from evil(flee all
appearances of evil); a woman who claims to fear God but is still full of
pride, arrogance, attention seeking and gossip does not possess a fear that is
different from that of devils, and you know where devils spend eternity.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of
wisdom (Proverbs 9: 10)
The fear of the Lord prolongeth days (Proverbs
10: 27)
In the fear of the Lord is strong
confidence (Proverbs 14: 26)
The fear of the Lord is as a fountain of
life (Proverbs 14: 27)
By the fear of the Lord men depart from
evil (Proverbs 16: 6)
The fear of the Lord tendeth to life
(Proverbs 19: 23)
I never knew it is as serious as this and I
have been living all my life in non-chalance, lying, gossip, empty jokes,
immoral dressing(forgetting that whosoever shall defile this body, him/her
shall God destroy). So if all these things are in my life, my fear is not
different from that of devils? Where then do I spend eternity? O Lord help
me!!!
The beginning of wisdom is to come to
Christ, the Wisdom of God personified. Fall at his feet( at the cross) by faith
believing that for you he bled and died. The more you delay, the more you
affirm you do not fear God and you cannot damn the grave consequences. He loves
you so much but does not want only lips confession. Your heart must bow in
penitence and believe His blood makes you clean and whole. Then act it out
because faith without works is dead. Cut off completely (by the Grace of God
now shed forth in your heart) from the past, start off a new life with cordial
communion with God and His people. Mouths cannot explain what you stand to
gain. The clock is ticking, Life is going, DO IT NOW.
